An official of the Department of Agriculture said yesterday that the state agency is willing to help poultry raisers and egg producers in Negros Occidental adopt measures that will let them continue stabilized production despite stringent government operating standards.
DA Region 6 director, Larry Nacionales, was reacting to reports that some livestock raisers in the country are concerned that requirements imposed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources will add to their operational costs.
Members of the United Broiler Raisers Association told a national business news service that they are being required by the DENR to install septic tanks and conduct environment-related studies to secure environment clearance certificates.
UBRA said changes in local government unit zoning ordinances, and inspections regarding stand-by generators are also among their concerns.
Local poultry raisers and egg producers could not be conducted for their views on the matter yesterday but Nacionales said they are always willing to assist the industry stakeholders in coordinating with the DENR and other state agencies to ensure that government regulations do not hamper business conditions.
Nacionales, however, also reminded livestock raisers that doing business requires responsibility, particularly to the environment, especially with the advent of climate change.*PP
