Keeping its semifinals bid alive, D’Twins Chicken registered a blistering start and sustained the momentum until the final whistle to blow away the struggling Vladi Gonzalez-backed Country Homes, 99-75, in the 9th Probac Invitational Basketball Tournament Monday night at the West Negros University gym.
Brix Lucenara’s 11 first quarter points ignited the rally that completely demolished Country Homes as D’Twins surged to a staggering 28-9 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game that featured two teams with contrasting paths.
Determined to get a crack at the semis, D’Twins hold on tight in the second quarter even as Country Homes’ gunners led by bigman Lastimosa the boards to get back into game.
Lastimosa’s 10 points in the second canto cut the lead to 12 points, 31-43, at the end of the first half.
Fatigue, however, took its toil on Country Homes in the third quarter as their 10-man roster was outplayed by D’Twins.
The margin once again ballooned to 18 points as D’Twins’ swingmen Jose Vivero and Atang Delgado combined for 19 points to pull away at 66-41, going into payoff time.
The fourth quarter saw D’Twins stepping on the gas pedal as they poured in 33 points to rout Country Homes in the final minutes.
With most of its attempts either swiped away or bouncing off the rim, Country Homes saw its hope for a win fading despite Mark Binguan’s three treys which he scored from beyond the three-point arc.
Bongbong Solinap chipped in 15 points for the losing side while Raffy Torrico topscored for D’Twins with 21 points, 14 of them in the fourth quarter.*with a report from A. Fernandez
