APRIL TO JUNE
20 drug peddlers
charged in court

Nine anti-drug operations have been conducted by the SOTF-AIDSOTG of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, April to June this year that led to the filing of charges against 20 suspects, a NOPPO press release said.

The supply reduction strategy being implemented by the police has proved effective, following the arrest of drug peddlers in three cities and five municipalities in the province, Chief Insp. Rico Santotome Jr., head of the Anti Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, said in the press release.

The latest drug sting operation in Binalbagan town, Wednesday, led to the apprehension of Pedro Rivera III, 27, of Barangay Aguisan, in Himamaylan City. Rivera was caught in an entrapment operation after he handed two sachets of suspected shabu in exchange for P600 in marked money to a police poseur-buyer, the press release said.

The Special Operations Task Force of NOPPO headed by Supt. Armando Tubongbanua will also shift its focus to the demand reduction strategy of the anti-drug program of the government, the press release also said.

The Philippine National Police in Negros Occidental will coordinate with the Department of Education in the conduct of drug symposia and seminars among students in the elementary, secondary and tertiary levels, as well as to out-of-school youths, the press release added.*
