NOPSSCEA 2009 to
reel off Sept. 18

Sports and cultural rivalries among 52 private schools in the province will once again heat up as the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural and Educational Association hostilities reel off this September.

Roger Banzuela, chairman of the NOPSSCEA Sports Task Force, disclosed at a sports moderators’ meeting Thursday at the University of St. La Salle Varsity Sports Office Lecture room that the tentative opening date of this year’s event will be on September 18. Also discussed were schedules for the annual athletics and cultural competitions.

The second sports moderators’ meeting will be on August 28 at the USLS gym while the coaches and the technical managers meeting will be on September 11.

All entries for both cultural and sports events should be filled in on or before July 10, Banzuela said.

NOPSSCEA will accept college basketball credentials from August 3 to 7 while the submission of credentials for all level is slated August 17 to 21.

The credentials submitted for the college level will be subjected to screening from August 10 to 29. The credentials submitted for other levels will, on the other hand, be screened on August 24.

Meanwhile, before the collegiate basketball tournament kicks off on August 22, a Pre-NOPSSCEA collegiate level basketball match is scheduled on Aug. 11 to 16, where scholarship grants, athletic items, gift certificates and cash rewards are at stake for the winning teams.

NOVA TIFFS

In its 31 years of active promotion of the volleyball development in the province and in the country, the Negros Occidental Volleyball Association, meanwhile, will hold the first Batang Growee 12 and under park volley festival on July 25 to 26 at USLS Football field.

Park volley is another kind of volleyball game meant for recreation and competition and is now being promoted by the International Volleyball Federation through the local National Sports Associations, Banzuela said in his letter to participating schools.

About 40 boys and girls teams from elementary public and private schools in the province are expected to participate in the tournament.*APN
