hand in NSL tourney

69Ners Bowlers led in the ongoing NSL Organization Fun Bowl Bowling Tournament at the Super Lanes of Goldenfields Commercial Complex in Bacolod City.

The group headed by Binoy Gepana accumulated 2,967 pinfalls overtaking DEP-ED Province rollers piloted by 1st MVG Singles Tournament winner Marianito Superiano, who went down to third position with 2,896 balls.

The Glori Reynaldo-led NOHS Class ’89 was second overall with 2,955, followed Firefly of Vilma Robles with 2,938.

NOPSSCEA 2009 to
reel off Sept. 18

Sports and cultural rivalries among 52 private schools in the province will once again heat up as the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural and Educational Association hostilities reel off this September.

Roger Banzuela, chairman of the NOPSSCEA Sports Task Force, disclosed at a sports moderators’ meeting Thursday at the University of St. La Salle Varsity Sports Office Lecture room that the tentative opening date of this year’s event will be on September 18. Also discussed were schedules for the annual athletics and cultural competitions.

The second sports moderators’ meeting will be on August 28 at the USLS gym while the coaches and the technical managers meeting will be on September 11.

Jun B leads shortlist
in PBA Hall of Fame

The late Emilio “Jun” Bernardino, fifth commissioner of the Philippine Basketball Association, and Bobby Parks, a seven-time Best Import winner, banner a short list of personalities that comprises the third batch of inductees to the PBA Hall of Fame.

Up for enshrinement as well on Sept. 19 at Sofitel Hotel prior to the opening of the PBA’s 35th season are San Miguel Beer legends Allan Caidic, Avelino “Samboy” Lim, Hector Calma and Ricardo Brown, and former PBA Board chairman Carlos “Honeyboy” Palanca III.

The final seven were picked by the Honors Committee chaired by former Vintage Enterprises bigwig Bobong Velez from a roll of 10 nominees.
