WV gets 350 cops
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Western Visayas will soon have 350 more policemen.

These are the qualified applicants for the position of Police Officer 1 who will take their oath today before Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas, regional police director, who is also marking his 55th birthday, at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City.

Cuevas said the Regional Recruitment and Selection Board completed the deliberation on the 357 applicants who made it to the final board, which was the last phase of the recruitment process.

He said the seven “excess” qualified applicants in Region 6 may be accommodated in Police Regional Office 7 in Cebu, since they have failed to complete the quota for Central Visayas.

Records of the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management showed that the recruitment of 3,000 Police Officers 1 is in line with the orders of President Gloria Arroyo to recruit 15,000 new policemen and women within the next five years, which started in 2006.

About 2,000 vacancies in ranks of Police Inspector and Senior Inspector will be filled up by Camp Crame also this year.

The PRO 6 is allocated 47 quotas for the rank of Police Inspector.

Supt. Ranulfo Demiar, PRO 6 spokesman, said all in-service applicants must have the rank of, at least, PO3, except for the Special Action Force who must have the rank of PO2.

Demiar added the civilian applicants must possess the number of years of experience in the field of expertise, which the PNP National Support Units concerned may require.

Interested parties may call the PRO 6 Regional Personnel, Human Resource, Doctrine and Development Division at (033) 337-9770, Demiar added.*GPB
