A Titan truck and a Hyundai Starex van loaded with automobile parts were intercepted by Police Station 1 operatives led by Senior Insp. Luisito Acebuche and PO3 Willie Perez during a checkpoint operation at San Juan Street in Bacolod City at about 10 p.m. Thursday.
The drivers of the vehicles were held in custody when they reportedly failed to present documents for the cargoes.
Acebuche identified the drivers as Romel Silguera, 23, of Brgy. Lapayon, Leganes District, and Geremy Facurib, 22, of Brgy. Igbita, Miag-ao District, all in Iloilo City.
Acebuche said they flagged down the vehicles when they passed the “one-way zone” at the portion of San Juan Street in front of the Police Station 1.
Acebuche added that Facurib, who was driving the van, tried to evade the apprehending officers and maneuvered the vehicle towards the Reclamation Area.
Assorted surplus tires, three units of damaged mountain bikes, a water pump, car doors and roofing, chassis assembly, assorted vehicle batteries and a scooter where seen in the truck driven by Silguera, while the van contained assorted surplus tires, a sealed cartoon and two computer units.
Investigation showed that the cargoes, allegedly owned by a Korean national named Chule-Hur Guen, came from Cagayan De Oro City and were supposed to be delivered in Dumangas town, Iloilo.
Acebuche met yesterday with Melvin Lumbo, legal counsel of the alleged owner and reiterated that documents should be presented before the police could release the drivers and the cargoes.
Acting City Police Director Supt. Leo Irwin Agpangan said that he is giving the owner of the cargoes until today to present the documents.
Should the owner fail to present the documents, the police chief said that they will file charges against him.*APN
