in projects: NEDA

There are P5.82 billion worth of foreign-assisted and local projects that are ongoing or recently completed in Negros Occidental, Ro-Ann Bacan, OIC regional director of the National Economic Development Authority in Western Visayas, said

Gov. Isidro Zayco yesterday said Bacan furnished him with a list of the projects for validation by the Negros Occidental Provincial Project Monitoring Council.

Among the foreign-assisted projects are the Austrian/Department of Public Works and Highways P28.1 million Haba Bridge construction in Candoni, P11.2 million Dolis I Bridge in Calatrava, P41.4 million 120 meter Camugao-Poblacion Bridge and P21.7 million Sta. Isabel Bridge in Kabankalan City;

The Regional Trial Court denied for lack of merit the civil case filed by an executive assistant of former Mayor Luzviminda Valdez against the Bacolod City government seeking the continued operation of the old slaughterhouse in Barangay 35, Bacolod City, and to restrain the city from declaring meat not coming from the new slaughterhouse in Handumanan as “hot meat.”

The case for preliminary mandatory and/or prohibitory injunction with prayer for issuance of temporary restraining order was filed last year by former executive assistant Joaquin Medina et al, against the Bacolod City government represented by Mayor Evelio Leonardia, the Sangguniang Panlungsod and City Veterinarian Dr. Adelo Daroy.

The petitioners include meat vendors, butchers, hog dealers and lechon vendors.

Business tycoon Eduardo Cojuangco doesn’t have cancer, his son says*

The son of Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco  belied rumors yesterday that the business tycoon was gravely ill with cancer.

"There is not a grain of truth in the rumors that my father has cancer," Rep. Mark Cojuangco (Pangasinan, 5th District) told the DAILY STAR.

The congressman was reacting to rumors that Cojuangco, chairman of San Miguel Corp., had died or that he has fourth stage cancer.

He said his father was keeping a full work schedule and was at his office at San Miguel Corp. yesterday.
