Twenty-three passengers were injured when the Ceres bus they were riding fell into a road canal on the highway of Brgy. Bubog in Talisay City at around 8 last night.
Talisay City police chief, Supt. Thomas Joseph Martir, said some of the injured passengers were rushed to the Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, while others were treated at the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod.
Initial investigation conducted by Police Officer 1 Peter Job Barneza showed no casualties, with most of the passengers sustaining only minor injuries, Martir also said.
The Ceres bus on the way to Victorias City was traveling on the outer lane of the road when a 10-wheeler truck on an inner lane suddenly swerved towards it.
Martir said the vehicle fell into the canal when the bus driver attempted to avoid colliding with the truck.
Driver Rogie Oñasa, 39, of Hacienda Lamac, Tiglawigan, Cadiz City, told the DAILY STAR that his 26-seater bus had about 31 passengers at the time.
Oñasa estimated the canal where they fell at about 6 feet deep.
On Friday last week, 44 passengers were hurt when the mini-bus they were riding fell into a deep creek in Brgy. Tampalon, Kabankalan City.
Kabankalan City Police Chief Supt. Calixto Mabugat, said bus driver Leo Dizon, 44, of Brgy. Tampalon, may have miscalculated the uphill climb.
Dizon and 43 others were rushed to the Kabankalan City District Hospital and the Gumersindo Garcia Hospital in the city.*APN
