Three suspected members of a hold-up and robbery gang in Dumaguete City were arrested after a hot pursuit operation by the city police led by Supt Leopoldo Cabanag yesterday.
Arrested by virtue of an alias warrant of arrest for murder issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 34 Judge Rosendo Bandal Jr. was Oliver Dizon, of Bantayan, who was accused for the killing of a businessman near Habhaban in Barangay Piapi several months ago.
Bandal had recommended no bail bond for Dizon’s temporary liberty.
Dizon was also linked to other crimes including last Friday’s robbery at La Tienda at Rovira Road, Bantayan, as well as the shooting to death of a security guard, the wounding of another guard, and the foiled attempt to kill a Muslim trader.
Arrested with Dizon was Paul Valencia, of Barangay 2 in Siaton and a 16-year-old relative of Dizon.
Confiscated from Dizon were a .22 caliber revolver and the .45 caliber Pistol owned by the Muslim trader identified as Alden Rabjaalam.
At the police station, Rabjaalam positively identified Dizon as the one who shot the two security guards at Noblefranca street few days ago.
Rabjaalam said he tried to help the two security guards by pulling his licensed .45 caliber pistol, but Dizon quickly pointed to him, but he was lucky as the suspect’s gun did not fire. Dizon took his firearm and his wallet containing P5,000 in cash.
Dizon denied shooting the security guards and the Muslim trader, but his two companions pointed to him as the gunman.
He admitted that he was one of those who barged into La Tienda in Bantayan with Valencia and the minor. Another personality identified as a certain Jomar of Tanjay was mentioned by the group as the one who texted them.
The minor also admitted they were responsible for the carnapping of a motorcycle in Batinguel together, and that, he surrendered to testify against the other members of the group.*JG
