BIR intensifies tax
mapping drive in NegOr

BY MARICAR ARANAS

The Bureau of Internal Revenue in Negros Oriental has intensified its tax mapping campaign to determine who among the business establishments have internal revenue permits.

Chief revenue collector Aldo Esmeňa of BIR Negros Oriental and Siquijor said they are asking for the cooperation of local government units in submitting the lists of business establishments in their areas that have been issued mayor’s permits.

The lists will become the basis for cross-matching to identify those who do not possess a BIR permit. All LGU’s are required to submit a list of business establishments issued mayor’s permits every year to the BIR, Esmeňa said.

Three suspected members of a hold-up and robbery gang in Dumaguete City were arrested after a hot pursuit operation by the city police led by Supt Leopoldo Cabanag yesterday.

Arrested by virtue of an alias warrant of arrest for murder issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 34 Judge Rosendo Bandal Jr. was Oliver Dizon, of Bantayan, who was accused for the killing of a businessman near Habhaban in Barangay Piapi several months ago.

Bandal had recommended no bail bond for Dizon’s temporary liberty.

CHR finishes first phase
of probe on mauling-slay
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Commission on Human Rights has completed its initial investigation into the death of a detainee at the police detention cell in Guihulngan in northern Negros Oriental.

CHR special investigator Jess Cañete said he has found possible discrepancies in the probe which provincial police director, Senior Supt. Augusto Marquez Jr. had requested.

Cañete said inconsistencies in the testimonies of other detainees and police personnel on duty at the time of the incident give rise to suspicion of a possible cover-up of the incident.
