Basecom overcomes
Teruel 45-point game

In a battle of survival between two teams that are trying to stay in the running for a quarterfinals slot, Basecom survived the 45-point explosion from Julius Teruel to score a 110-103 victory over AACI Transport in the 2009 Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. Intercolor Tournament at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

AACI Transport, the first team to be eliminated in the tournament,  ended its elimination round campaign with one win and six losses while Basecom, which now carries a 2-5 card, remains in the hunt for a quarterfinals slot with its fate to be decided next week based on the  results of  the two remaining playdates.

Basecom erased a 53-46 halftime deficit to stay ahead at 78-75 as Eduardo Ng delivered 13 third quarter points connecting on three treys while  Ritche Militante and Matthew Yap added six and five points, respectively.

Teruel and RB CHua combined for 20 points in the third to keep AACI Transport within striking distance.

In the fourth quarter, the duo Ritche Militante and Matthew Yap delivered 13 and 11 points to make sure of the win while AACI Transport’s rally fell short behind Daniel Tan’s 10 points and Teruel’s nine markers.

Militante, who had a solid low post game, paced Basecom with 34 points while Matthew Yap added 20 points.

Eduardo Ng, Lyn Doble, Dr. Gian Carlo Coruña and RJ Iligan provided the outside firepower for Basecom with 15, 14, 11 and 8 points, respectively.

Backstopping for Teruel in the ACCI Transport side were RB Chua with 29 points, Daniel Tan 16, and Tubby Villanueva with 10.

Meanwhile, AACI Farms sustained its lethal form and secured the No. 1 spot by registering a convincing 97-82 victory over AACI Trading.

AACI Farms was led by Charlton Ong with 19 points while Arvin Chua delivered 17, Antonio Rogacion 16, Jason Ong 12, Bobil Alagaban 10, and Ralph Richard Tan, 7.

Monroe Chua chipped in 25 points for AACI Trading , Michael Ang 12, Atong Villanueva and Rommel Genovea with 11 points apiece and Albert Li, 9 points.

Games will resume on Monday with the first game pitting AACI Trading against Sweet Crystal  while Organic Solutions goes up against Chemisolutions Inc. in the second game.*
