The annual Pintaflores Festival streetdancing and ritual competition will be held in San Carlos City , Negros Occidental, on Nov. 3 to 5.

San Carlos Mayor Eugenio Jose Lacson said it was in 1992 when the Pintaflores originated and it involves the painting of the bodies, and flowers.

Pintaflores was coined from the word “pintados”, the concept behind the Nabingkalan Tattoo Festival and “flores”, the Spanish word for flowers that led to the theme of the Dances of Flowers.

The successful holding of the two activities in 1992 as highlights of the city's fiesta resulted in the creation of the Pintaflores Festival of San Carlos City .

Lacson said that, like any other fiesta, the idea there is to make it as colorful and as attractive as possible.

He said they have also joined Sinulog a couple of times carrying their fiesta name and in the last two years, they have also opened up the competition to other local governments in the Island of Negros – both Oriental and Occidental.

Lacson said that for this year they will have participants coming from Negros Oriental and Occidental.*CGS

Pulupandan folk
rally at Mondia place

The Balik-Loob Organization held its second peace rally in Pulupandan, Negros Occidental, Saturday, a press release from the group headed by Eliseo Vicentino said yesterday.

The first rally was on October 24 in front of the residential compound of the Mondias where former mayor Luis Mondia, Jr. and his family lived before they transferred to Iloilo City two years ago, the press release said.

On Saturday, the group of about 1,000 marched around the poblacion and ended with a program calling for “peace and unity” and not violence to prevail in Pulupandan, especially now that 2010 elections approach.

Members of Balik-Loob Organization are former political supporters, allies, and friends of Mondia, the former mayor. Among them are Alberto Jacildo and Bulan Castañeda, the press release also said.

Meanwhile, the rallyists also erected two 15-feet posters showing some scenes taken after the failed ambush of incumbent Mayor Magdaleno Peña, and during the series of their protest rallies against the Mondias last year, the press release said.

Vicentino said a series of rallies against the Mondias will be held every Saturday in the same venue, the press release added.*
