Peña files raps vs.
former mayor

BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Pulupandan Mayor Magdaleno Peña has filed anti-graft and corrupt practices act of 1991 charges against former town Mayor Luis Mondia for alleged unsettled cash advances before the Office of the Ombudsman for the Visayas in Cebu City last week, a press release from his office said yesterday.

The DAILY STAR failed to reach Mondia for comment last night, but his brother, Sammy, said that the former mayor will not issue statements on the matter for the meantime.

He also said that they will refer the case to their legal counsel once they receive the official copy of the complaint

In his complaint affidavit, a copy of which was furnished the DAILY STAR, Peña alleged that their accounting record showed that the former Mayor incurred P708,892.94 cash advances.

Of this amount, Peña claimed that P591,480.94 was from the town’s General Fund, P90,401 from the Special Education Fund, and P27,011 from the Trust fund.

Peña said he sent three demand letters to Mondia so he can liquidate the accounts but the former mayor allegedly refused to receive them.

He said it is “high time for Pulupandan to get what it owns and to collect what needs to be paid because the people’s money should be spent for the welfare of Pulupandan and not to waste it away”.*APN
