The Department of Health and the European Commission granted P86 million to the Integrated Plan for Health program of Negros Oriental recently.
Negros Oriental is one of the 19 provinces in the country chosen by the European Commission to implement the program with counterpart funds from the Department of Health.
Gov. Emilio Macias II said the grant is intended for the enhancement and improvement of recipient hospitals in Bayawan City , Siaton, Bais, Mabinay, Bindoy, Guihulngan and the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete City .
Other improvements are the purchase of additional hospital equipment and establishment of healthy stores authorized to sell fortified canned goods, iron fortified rice and generic medicines.
Also part of the improvement is the construction of the wastewater treatment facility at the NOPH, one of the priority projects under the PIPH.
The provincewide Integrated Plan for Health started in 2006 and will end in 2010.*RG
