BY JUDY F. PARTLOW & JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Area Clearing Evaluation and Validation Board of the Armed Forces of the Philippines has declared seven barangays in the first district of Negros Oriental as free from infiltration of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army.

This was reported at a meeting convened yesterday by the ACEVB of the 3rd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army based in Jamindan, Capiz, and headed by Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Amat and attended by Negros Oriental Gov. Emilio Macias II.

Amat said the meeting was held with military and police commanders in Negros and Central Visayas to validate if the areas recommended for clearing had passed the parameters set by the AFP.

DepEd backs campaign
on wildlife conservation
BY MARICAR ARANAS

The Department of Education in Negros Oriental pledged to support the campaign on wildlife conservation by inserting in the high school and elementary curriculum the aspect of environmental law implementation.

DepEd Supervisor Erlinda Calumpang emphasized at a forum Wednesday the relevance of wildlife and the environment should be inculcated in the minds of the young people.

Environmental and wildlife concerns are being discussed in Science subjects but limited only protection and it would more effective to include the apprehension for violating the environmental laws, she said.

Election hotspot
declaration eyed
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Commission on Elections and the Philippine National Police are currently looking into possibilities that some areas in the province will be declared as areas of concern, because of hotly contested positions in the coming political exercise.

One of these areas is Bacong, the town next to Dumaguete City , where the former mayor will run against the incumbent, who was once his vice mayor.

The camp of incumbent Mayor Lenin Alviola had filed administrative and criminal charges against former mayor, Rodolfo Yee, before the Ombudsman for the Visayas, but all of these were decided in Yee's favor.
