Cannons roared and revolutionaries prepared for battle, as Bago and Silay cities began the 111 th commemoration of the liberation of Negros from the Spaniards on that fateful day of November 5, 1898.
Bago City Mayor Ramon Torres began the historical highlight with the famous blast of the cannons that were soon paraded in the streets of Bago, replicating the heroism of their forefathers headed by General Juan Araneta.
This festival is considered the Philippines ' best tourism event in the 2009 Arts and Culture Category. That day the Salas Youth Access Center was inaugurated along with the start of the sports festival, book launching of Major General Jerry Jalandoni, boxing competition and a whole night of bands, music and merrymaking at the Bantayan Park . The festivities highlighted Bago City 's magnificent eco-tourism programs, historical and cultural attractions.
Silay City Mayor Oti Montelibano, on the other hand, immortalized the heroism of General Anecito Lacson and the Silaynons through a documentary film at the St. Therese Academy . The film brought to life the colorful details of Silay's magnificence and splendor as the “Paris of Negros,” and showed in detail all significant events that made its history.
Among those who attended the affair were Antique Gov. Sally Perez, Leyte Mayor Nel Sarmiento, and former first lady Ruska Gamboa, among others. Congratulations to Silay Historical Research guru Solomon Locsin and Gary Lake Liza on making such a wonderful film masterpiece.
It was an intimate night of well-loved songs, good food and laughter as Dr. Marichi Ramos jetted in Gabby Concepcion for a night to remember. Gabby serenaded close to 200 guests at the Resto sa Baybay Restaurant.
He had so much fun with Negrenses participating eagerly in the singing and dancing, that the original contract of only four songs, resulted in a performance of nearly three hours!

Two new establishments recently opened at Terra Dolce, the Nail Spa and Club Sibeeria. Nail Spa is owned by a group of La Salle high school batchmates.
Club Sibeeria, on the other hand, is Bacolod 's newest and hippest dance club owned by young Chinese entrepreneurs.
