The Rural Bank of Santa Catalina in Negros Oriental awarded Thursday four officers of the Dumaguete Philippine National Police and a bank employee for apprehending two hold-up suspects in Dumaguete City on Sept. 30.
A plaque of appreciation and cash award were each given to PO3 Rolando Paladar Jr., PO2 Stephen Duran, PO3 Matias Pangilayan and PO2 Jovisito Pinili, and bank employee Manolo Apura.
Two armed robbers attacked Apura on Sept. 30 along Santa Catalina street , in Dumaguete, after the victim withdraw money from the Bank of the Philippine Islands.
Apura suffered a fracture on his arm when he refused to give the money to the robbers.
Immediately responding to the alarm, the roving patrol of the Dumaguete police apprehended the suspects, who are detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Bajumpan.
Bank manager Zenaida Teves said they had unanimously voted to give due recognition to the four police officers who actually performed their duty. They saved the life of their bank employee as well as the money he was bringing.
Apura is one of the pioneer employees of the Rural Bank of Santa Catalina since 1984.
Pinili expressed his gratitude to the management and members of the Board of Directors of the bank, for recognizing their effort in maintaining the peace and order in the city.
He said it will serve as a challenge especially to other police officers to fulfill their duties with pride and bravery.*MA
