Mayor declares war vs.
crime in Valencia

Mayor Rodolfo Gonzalez of Valencia , Negros Oriental, has declared war against criminality in his municipality.

“The war against criminality is not over,” he said, following the arrest of three suspects believed to be responsible for the string of burglaries in the town, recently.

Police investigation showed that the suspects are also linked to burglaries involving foreign nationals living in Valencia .

Gonzalez declared the war against criminality during the peace and order council meeting in the town. During the meeting, the Philippine National Police reported that three burglaries have been consummated and seven were attempted, in Valencia .

The Rural Bank of Santa Catalina in Negros Oriental awarded Thursday four officers of the Dumaguete Philippine National Police and a bank employee for apprehending two hold-up suspects in Dumaguete City on Sept. 30.

A plaque of appreciation and cash award were each given to PO3 Rolando Paladar Jr., PO2 Stephen Duran, PO3 Matias Pangilayan and PO2 Jovisito Pinili, and bank employee Manolo Apura.

Two armed robbers attacked Apura on Sept. 30 along Santa Catalina street , in Dumaguete, after the victim withdraw money from the Bank of the Philippine Islands.

8.5M Filipinos to benefit
from holiday economics

Tourist arrivals will have reached 3.1 million by the end of the year, and that is a conservative estimate.

According to the Department of Tourism, close to 8.5 million Filipinos will visit beaches, mountain resorts, shrines, and other points of interests in their own country this year, a press release from the Office of the Press Secretary said.

The industry has President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to thank for her holiday economics policy.
