AACI Farms remained unbeaten in five starts as it held off Sweet Crystal, 82-74, while AACI Transport made it to the win column by routing Huminova Tigers, 81-65, in the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. 3rd Conference Inter-Color Tournament at Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.
Both victorious teams had triple tower frontline advantage to anchor their offense and defense freeing up their outside shooters.
The father-and-son combination of Roger Montalbo and 13-year-old Kib Montalbo, who combined for 15 points, led Sweet Crystal while 14-year-old Joshua Co fired 10 points for Farms to tie at 17-all in the first quarter.
Sweet Crystal matched the outside shooting offense of the Farms, but the latter's triple tower gave the team more second chances as the Farms took a 61-54 lead in the third quarter.
In the payoff quarter, Kib Montalbo and Atong Villanueva scored five points each to lead Sweet Crystal's balanced offense, but Ralph Richard Tan put in eight straight points midway in the quarter to bring the lead back to Farms side after Crystal guy Ralph Ong bullied his way with six points in the quarter.
Ralph Tan paced Farms with 14 points while John Dustin Chua scored 13, Mark Lo, 11 points, and Joshua Co with 10 markers.
Sweet was led by Kib Montalbo with 13 points while his father Roger finished the game with 11 points.
In the second game, it was a contrast of manpower in the battle of winless teams with AACI Transport's top three picks playing together for the first time while the Tigers, with two of its top three picks sidelined due to injury, had to play catch-up in the game.
After a 22-18 AACI Transport first lead, anchored on the fiery start from Tim Garrucho and Fr. Clarence Canafe.
With only seven players showing up for the game, the undermanned Tigers struggled with their offense.
It was smooth sailing for AACI Transport as they maintained their double digit lead, banking on their height and heft frontcourt advantage that proved to be too much to handle for the Tigers.
Tim Garrucho spearheaded Transport offense with 18 points while Vincent Javelosa added 12, and Fr. Canafe and Christopher Javelosa with 10 points.
RB Chua paced the Tigers with 18 points while Julius Teruel chipped in 13 points.
Games today will feature Sweet Crystal against AACI Trading in the first game and AACI Transport against JSY Transport in the second game.*with a report from Stephen Tan
