Executive Assistant Ernesto Pineda, who heads the Price Monitoring Council of Bacolod City, yesterday said they will invite Sugar Regulatory Administrator Rafael Coscolluela to their council meeting on Nov. 27 to explain the increase in prices of sugar in public markets.
Pineda said that based on their monitoring, the prices of refined sugar have increased from P38 to P42, while prices of washed sugar have also increased from P28 to P32.
He said they have also invited other sectoral groups and representatives of the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Agriculture, Department of Health and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to attend the meeting at the government center.


‘B’ rates still up
Prices of “B” or domestic sugar continued their rally at Thursday’s bidding, data from the Sugar Master Plan Foundation showed.
CASA, which led the rates rebound last week was also the highest gainer for this week with P1,423.88, up from P1,352.88.
The First Farmers Holdings, Victorias Milling Company, Sagay Inc., and the Lopez Sugar Corp. pegged their prices at P1,415.


Rice procurement surges
As of yesterday, the level of the rice procurement of the National Food Authority in Negros Occidental was 85 percent higher than its target of 39,000 bags this year, Cynthia Luz Chua, NFA senior grains operation officer, said yesterday.
A total of 45,784 bags of clean and dry palay were bought by NFA coming from individual farmers and farmers’ organization/cooperatives, Chua said.
She said the NFA buying price for clean and dry palay is P17.40 per kilo for individual farmers, and P17.70 a kilo for farmers’ cooperatives.
