Arroyo to launch ro-ro route today
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will make a quick visit to Negros Oriental today as part of the launching of the Strong Republic Nautical Highway's Cebu–Northern Mindanao route.

The route will link the central and western seaboards of the President’s Strong Republic Nautical Highway, which is touted as the “highways of the seas” linking the islands through roads, bridges and the use of roll-on, roll-off vessels.

The SRNH covers the country’s eastern, central and western seaboards, and has allowed for faster, more efficient and cost-effective movement of people and transport of agricultural produce and other goods.

Arroyo and her party are expected to land at the Dumaguete Airport at noon, after which, they will motor to the Dumaguete port to inaugurate the maiden voyage of the Lite Shipping Corporation’s Ro-Ro vessel that will ply the Cebu-Negros Oriental route.

Arroyo is expected to board the Lite Shipping Corporation vessel from the Dumaguete port to Samboan in Cebu.

She is also scheduled to send off the maiden voyage of the same shipping firm that will depart from Samboan to the Paluan Port in Dapitan City in Zamboanga del Norte.

From Samboan, Arroyo will motor to Santander, Cebu and take the fast craft in returning to the Dumaguete port.*JFP
