Incumbent local government officials and those seeking elective positions in the fourth district of Negros Occidental yesterday joined the United Negros Alliance, by taking their oath before UNA president and gubernatorial candidate Alfredo Marañon Jr.
Bago City Mayor Ramon Torres and Vice Mayor Nicholas Yulo, Valladolid Mayor Romel Yogore and Vice Mayor Glory Gomez, Pulupandan Mayor Magdaleno Peña and Vice Mayor Antonio Suatengco, Pontevedra Mayor Jose Maria Alonzo and Vice Mayor Larry Parroco and their councilors, yesterday re-affirmed their memberships to UNA.
La Carlota City candidate for mayor Juliet Marie Ferrer, wife of Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer, and San Enrique mayoralty bet Florenda Tubillara also took their oaths before Marañon at Bar 21 Restaurant in Bacolod City.
Tubillara is the wife of San Enrique Mayor Jilson Tubillara.
Murcia mayoralty candidate Andrew Montelibano and incumbent Vice Mayor Joselino Santiago Sr. and their whole councilors slate also took their oath as UNA members, ahead of their colleagues in the third district of Negros Occidental, which was witnessed by UNA congressional candidate Albee Bantug-Benitez.
Ferrer said incumbent La Carlota City Mayor Demie John Honrado will no longer seek a re-election. Instead, Honrado will serve as a campaign manager of his wife.
He said there is no such thing as a “political dynasty”.
“We are holding elections and people vote for candidates whom they like,” Ferrer said.
The name of Trade and Industry Undersecretary Teddy Rivera cropped up as a challenger of Ferrer in the fourth district of Negros Occidental.
“Anybody can run. This is a democratic country,” Ferrer said.
On Nov. 23, Marañon will also officiate the oathtaking of UNA members in the third district of Negros Occidental in Bacolod City.*GPB
