Show of force set
Nov. 28, Marañon says

BY NIDA BUENAFE

There will definitely be a show of force when the United Negros Alliance’s candidates for different local elective positions file their Certificate of Candidacy on Nov. 28, UNA president and gubernatorial bet Alfredo Marañon said yesterday.

Along with running mate incumbent Rep. Genaro Alvarez Sr. (Neg. Occ. 6th District), UNA’s six aspirants for congressional seats in Negros Occidental, and its 12 bets for the Provincial Board, Marañon said they will file their CoCs together before the COMELEC provincial office on the 28th.

He is also not expecting to run unopposed as he is sure that other political parties will field their own slate for the May 10, 2010 polls.

Marañon said he welcomes anybody who will run against him as having an opponent will make the election more exciting.

“That is the essence of democracy. Subo man kon wala kontra (It will be lonesome to run unopposed),” he said.

Marañon assures the public that UNA will engage in a high level campaign, there will neither be mudslinging nor dragging out of personal issues.

Earlier, he expressed optimism that he will have a landslide victory for the gubernatorial seat, citing the support of 30 of the 31 mayors and almost all the incumbent congressmen in Negros Occidental.

Marañon said that as long as UNA members are united, all their candidates will win in May next year.*NAB
