Getting back their rhythm in time, La Consolacion College-Murcia elementary volleyball boys' team squeezed out a 25-16, 27-25 victory over Queen of Peace School to win the title while St. John's Institute girls' team turned back St. Scholastica's Academy, 25-19, 25-16 to claim the crown in the NOPSSCEA elementary volleyball competition.
With a twice-to-beat advantage stock on their side, LCC-Murcia was had a scare against QPS in their first encounter yesterday morning as the latter tamed the Christian Oliveros-mentored Murciahanons, 19-25, 20-25, to arrange a playoff match yesterday afternoon.
QPS barged into the championship round after beating early favorite St. John's Institute in three sets, 18-25, 25-23, 25-22, while the Johnians managed to secure the third place honors by dismissing Jack ‘N Jill School-PHHC.
In the girls' department, SJI's young twin towers of Rosel Sy and Bianca Lizares, anchored the final play as the Johnnians successfully defended their title in the NOPSSCEA elementary girls' volleyball against the hardfighting Aira Velasco-powered SSA squad.
With the win, coach Peter Yusay and the SJI girls will represent NOPSSCEA selection to the Provincial Palaro slated Dec. 13-18.
SSA settled for second place honors while St. Benilde School finished third by prevailing over University of St. La Salle-Integrated School .
In college volleyball, USLS' men's team claimed leadership at the start of the Page System finals with a four-set victory over University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, 25-16, 26-28, 25-21, 30-28 yesterday.
Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod, on the other hand, outlasted John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation after five sets, 24-26, 25-18, 21-25, 25-14, 15-9.
