Trixia Marie Maraña representing Barangay Taclobo was crowned Miss Dumaguete 2009 and Irikaj Geline Torremocha from Camanjac National High School was named Miss Teen Dumaguete, at the pageant night at the City Hall quadrangle, Monday.

Miss Dumaguete first runner-up was Johanna Carla Saad of Barangay Pulantubig, followed by Vanda Sanreah Gonzales of Barangay Calindagan.

Senica Celis of Dumaguete City High School-Night Class was Miss Teen first runner-up and second runner-up was Danah Shareen Candelario of Ramon Teves Pastor Memorial-Dumaguete Science High School.

Tooremocha also took home the Best in Gown and Best in Production Number awards in the Miss Teen contest. Best in Talent went to Michelle Merced of Negros Oriental High School ; Celis – Best in Playwear; Micah Justine de Guia of Dumaguete City High School – Best Speaker.

Maraña was also awarded Miss Dumaguete Best Speaker and Best in Gown. Other major awards were Best in Production Number and Best in Playwear won by Saad and Best in Talent Jhulleanne Mae Cagang.

As Miss Teen Dumaguete 2009, Torremocha will represent the city in the Miss Teen Philippines Negros Oriental, and Maraña as Miss Dumaguete will be the ambassadress of goodwill to promote Dumaguete as tourism destination.

Mayor Agustin Perdices, Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod awarded the winners.

Perdices had said he is grateful for the support to the twin pageants from the employees, local officials, Department of Education, and the private sector.

He hoped the candidates would continue promote the city as a drug-free locality.

The mayor also reminded the candidates of their mission as environmental advocates to mitigate the effects of climate change.*MA
