BUS Group wins
LNA7 34-Up title
BY NIDA BUENAFE

Center Bernie Chan cut loose with 17 points as Basketball Unified Sports Group finished off BBC, 100-80, to capture the LNA7 Basketball Tournament 34-Up category, Tuesday night at the West Negros University gym.

Forwards Roberto Celis and Hermi Derwill tallied 11 points apiece while the quartet of Bandoy Aliermo, Rigor Bayer, Randolph Benedicto and Biboy Java combined for 32 points.

BBC had five men scoring double figures for 55 points but was outscored by the Huskies, 35-24, in the opening quarter and 48-35 at halftime. A 29-17 spurt in the third quarter gave Bing Soyao's charges a 25-point cushion at 77-52 and were never threatened.

BUS G took Game 1 of the best-of-three final series, 85-72, on Nov. 19 as Sammy Dave Belangel topscored with 20 markers including five triples, while Dagol Flores added 15 points, Chan 14 and Celis 11.

The first encounter in the finals was close as BBC trailed by two in the opening quarter, 15-17. The Huskies, coached by Melvin Baclay and Nonoy Cordova, pulled away in the second canto with a 26-10 surge taking the half, 43-35.

Tony Agustin's wards waged a last ditch effort outscoring BUSG 49-42 in the final half but the effort was not enough to reverse the outcome of the game.

In the LNA7 50-Above category, YBAC remained on top with an emphatic 132-81 win over BUS G as HABA (Hinigaran Amateur Basketball Association) beat MONO (Monico-Novero team) 79-72 on Sunday.

Boy Doble drilled in 22 points and Melvin Baclay scattered 15 points but the Huskies were dominated in the paint by Gingging Gaylo, Nelson Sedillo and Mario Reyes.

BUSG's lead in two quarters were easily erased as Boboy Jose and Joel Marquez controlled the tempo employing their dreaded full court press.

On Saturday, NEPROAC demolished BUS Group, 95-72, as the Huskies missed the services of their 4 reinforcements from Dumaguete Professionals.

Toto Chong hit 28 points, Nonoy Villarino 15 and Kid Magay had 14 for NEPROAC.

Baclay hit seven triples for 23 points, Nonoy Cordova delivered 17 on putbacks and Moises Padilla contributed 11 points for the Huskies who took the lead in two quarters but failed to sustain their momentum in the final half.*NAB
