Macho registers win
in Probac basketball

After several tries, Bitoy Yee's Macho Men's Club finally barged into the win column, beating the shorthanded Chromic Carwash, 95-85, while erstwhile unbeaten squad Redhouse/Jacopo yielded to Luis Paint, 85-70, in the Probac Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at the West Negros University gym.

In the Macho vs. Chromic game, JR Fernandez was hot in the opening quarter as he connected six straight shots en route to a quarter-high output of 14 points while guard Ike Arevalo helped him with seven markers to give Macho an early 24-20 lead.

Chromic guards Michael Sian and Nato Canoy paced their team with 15 points to remain within striking distance.

In the following quarter, Chromic's Joseph Wong and Joelen Dilag mounted a counter attack as they fired off 15 points to help their team equalize going to the half. Sherman Gonzales led Macho with 12 quarter-points.

Jason Olmedo buckled down to work in the third quarter as he piloted his team in successfully wresting the lead from Macho despite the nine-point bomb from JR Fernandez.

The final quarter saw Macho stepping up their defensive play holding Chromic's top scorers Wong and Olmedo to a combined nine points, eventually reclaiming the lead and posting their first victory in the tournament.

In the second game, paintmen Tisoy Escote, Renren Lacson and Ryan Javellana set the mood for Luis Paint's conquest of frontrunner Redhouse/Jacopo.

The trio combined for 15 points for an early lead as Jacopo/Redhouse fired back with 14 markers courtesy of Carlo Diaz, BJ Javellona and Sukrad Sekhon.

With the stellar play of Luis Paint's Nino Pido and outside shooting of Francis Andren, both tallying a combined 15 points, Luis Paint maintained the one point margin at halftime.

Doubling their effort in the third canto, Luis Paint upped their lead to 53-51 with Lacson, Escote and Javellana doing most of the damage.

Their undersized opponents relied on Chu and Abrot but both scorers were successfully negated by the paintmen.

BJ Javellona stepped up for his squad by scoring five quarter points.

In crunchtime Abrot and Diaz led Redhouse/Jacopo with 8 and 6 points, respectively, but the stingy Luis Paint defense shut down other scorers.

The paintmen employed the inside-out game with menacing effectiveness as shooter Francis Andre connected with five treys for a game- high 21 points.*NAB
