BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A suspect who allegedly tried to stab a policeman, his wife and daughter, was injured after he was shot by his would-be victim with an M-16 assault rifle on Tuesday in Brgy. Tabao Baybay, San Enrique, Negros Occidental.

Senior Insp. Eduardo Corpuz, San Enrique police chief, yesterday said the victim identified as Jury Gentelizo allegedly assaulted PO2 Radnie Lingamen, his wife and daughter, with a bladed weapon.

Lingamen who responded to the call for help from his wife and daughter, shot Gentelizo in the right foot, a police report said.

Corpuz said Gentelizo who was monitored to be conducting a surveillance on the house of Lingamen, allegedly tried to stab the policeman's wife and daughter.

Lingamen who came to the rescue of his wife and daughter, shot the victim during a confrontation in a sugarcane field, after he was also being attacked with a bladed weapon.

Gentelizo is now being treated for his gunshot wound at the Valladolid District Hospital .

Corpuz said Lingamen will file charges against Gentelizo for assault on a person in authority.

On the other hand, Chief Inspector Samuel Mina said a resident of E.B. Magalona who requested anonymity, surrendered a fragmentation grenade to the town police station.

Two homemade shotguns were also surrendered to the Murcia Police Station on Monday, police records also showed.*GPB
