Cops collar drug peddler

The Bacolod City Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group arrested an alleged drug peddler in a raid in Purok Sigay, Brgy. 2, in the city, at about 5 p.m. Wednesday, the police said yesterday.

Police identified the suspect as Rene Diaz Jr., alias “One Ball”, 26, in his residence.

Armed with a search warrant issued by Municipal Trial Court in Cities Branch 2 Executive Judge Ma. Lorna Demonteverde, operatives and Barangay Captain Richard Barber and Kagawad Emilda Banguanga swooped down on the residence of Diaz.

The team led by Supt. Pedrito Escarilla and Insp. Joemarie Occeño recovered two elongated plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, an improvised tooter, and a bamboo clip, police records showed.

Also seized were a plastic scoop, a disposable lighter with an improvised torch, and P300 in cash.

Charges for violation of sections 11 and 12 of Republic Act 9165, for possession of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia, will be filed against Diaz, who is now detained at the lock-up cell of the Bacolod City headquarters.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-6 Plans and Operations Chief Intelligence Officer 3 Cerilo Baluma said his operatives also tried to arrest Diaz in October, but he was able to escape.

Meanwhile, Baluma said charges for violating sections 11 and 12 of the drugs law for possession of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia were filed against former Ilog Municipal Councilor Paul Regalado, before the Provincial Prosecutor's Office yesterday.

Regalado, 33, of Sitio Bagroy, Brgy. Delicioso, Ilog town, Negros Occidental, was arrested Monday by PDEA after receiving information that he was into alleged illegal drug use.*APN

Another .38 caliber revolver was also turned over to the police after they held a dialog with residents of Brgy. Gahit, in E.B. Magalona, town police chief Samuel Mina said.

A .38 caliber revolver and a homemade shotgun were also surrendered to the Valladolid police station, Chief Insp. Alexander Muñoz, in his report to Senior Supt. Manuel Felix, police provincial director, said.
