Driver stabs cop
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

A police non-commissioned officer of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office was injured when a tricycle driver allegedly stabbed him in Bacolod City at about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Police Officer 2 Anthony Mahusay, a member of the 612 th Provincial Mobile Group, who sustained a minor injury on his back, Police Officer 2 Jonathan Guillena said yesterday.

Investigation showed that Mahusay was waiting for a jeepney at the corner of Burgos and Gatuslao streets in front of El Camino Dos restaurant when he confronted a tricycle driver, whose name the police withheld, for alleged illegal parking.

The tricycle driver asked Mahusay who he was and when the latter introduced himself as a policeman, the tricycle driver allegedly shouted at him, investigation showed.

Mahusay ignored the driver and instead flagged down a jeepney (Homesite-Central Market). But when Mahusay was about to board the jeepney, the tricycle driver allegedly stabbed him in the back and fled towards Purok Cadena de Amor, investigation added.

The victim tried to chase the tricycle driver but failed to catch up with him, police said.

Meanwhile, homicide charges will be filed against a sugarcane worker for allegedly stabbing to death his fellow sugarcane worker Monday.

Ronel Macapobre, 28, of Marang Bago, Don Salvador Benidicto town, Negros Occidental, was found dead along the highway at Brgy. Vista Alegre, in Bacolod with multiple stab wounds on Monday, investigator on the case, Senior Police Officer 1 Danny Abalayan, said yesterday.

The police tagged Lowell Mahilum, 20, of Lag-an, Calatrava town, as the primary suspect since investigation showed that he had invited Macapobre for a drinking spree before the victim was found dead.

They received a text message from Mahilum's uncle that he is hiding somewhere in Bago City , Abalayan said.*APN
