A combined team of policemen and 6 th Regional Mobile Group troopers confiscated 800 board feet of illegally cut “bakan” lumber on Wednesday in San Carlos City , Negros Occidental.
Supt. Harold Tuzon yesterday said the confiscated lumber, valued at P48,000, came from Sitio Tinungkuan, Brgy. Prosperidad, in San Carlos .
A certain Joel hired a chainsaw operator to cut five bakan trees, which is prohibited by law, a San Carlos police report said.
The confiscated lumber is now in the custody of the San Carlos City police station.
Meanwhile, 45 sacks of charcoal and 400 bundles of firewood were also confiscated by the police in San Carlos , for being transported without the necessary documents.
Tuzon attributed the confiscation of the lumber and charcoal to the vigilance of barangay officials, especially in the upland villages of San Carlos , who had provided them information about the illegal activities.*GPB
