GMA accepts tripartite deal
on water mgm't, watersheds

A tripartite memorandum of agreement between the Local Water Utilities Administration, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Philippine Association of Water Districts on the close monitoring, management and development of watershed areas was presented to President Gloria Arroyo from signatories of the three government agencies, a press release from Malacañang said.

Under the MOA, the three government agencies agreed to recognize existing administrative, jurisdictional, and institutional arrangements and responsibilities over specific watersheds under prevailing laws, and contractual agreements, it said.

DOST college
scholarships extended

The Department of Science and Technology is extending its scholarship applications until October 15 to give a chance to the deserving students to avail the scholarship, Allan Francis Dara-ug, provincial director of S and T said.

Dara-ug said that, as of Friday last week, they received and evaluated 531 applicants for both merit and open scholarship.

He said he is also expecting applicants from Calatrava, Candoni, Don Salvador Benedicto, and Hinoba-an both from private and public schools, and wants all the towns and cities in the province to be represented in the DOST scholarship.

Sugar coop starts
food-for-work plan

The ISEPI Multi-purpose Cooperative recently held an orientation for a livelihood and food for work program to augment the income of the sugar workers of their members, at the Lopez Sugar Corporation in Barangay Paraiso, Sagay City , Negros Occidental, a press release from the group said.

The project is funded by the Department of Labor and Employment – Bureau of Rural Workers coursed through the Sugar Industry Foundation Inc., it added.

The program will extend needed inputs for vegetable and free range chicken production to the beneficiaries that will be payable after harvest, with the option to re-avail.
