The ISEPI Multi-purpose Cooperative recently held an orientation for a livelihood and food for work program to augment the income of the sugar workers of their members, at the Lopez Sugar Corporation in Barangay Paraiso, Sagay City , Negros Occidental, a press release from the group said.
The project is funded by the Department of Labor and Employment – Bureau of Rural Workers coursed through the Sugar Industry Foundation Inc., it added.
The program will extend needed inputs for vegetable and free range chicken production to the beneficiaries that will be payable after harvest, with the option to re-avail.
Aside from the inputs, they will receive two sacks of rice per module of five members as payment for their labor.
The project will use the state-of-the-art Vermi Bio-Organic Technology of Green Farm Systems in Sibulan, Negros Oriental and will be conducted by Fertile Earth Agro-Industrial Corporation in Sagay City, the press release said.*
