NegOr to develop
tourists spots
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Negros Oriental government has allocated millions of pesos to develop Baslay Twin Hot Springs in Dauin town and White Sand Beach in Tanjay City , two new potential tourist attractions, this year.

Gov. Emilio Macias II has requested the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to appropriate an additional P2 million for the completion of the boardwalk and for the construction of cottages and sanitation facilities in the area.

Macias said the immediate establishment of sanitation facilities such as portable latrines has been stressed to avoid polluting the pristine waters of the White Sand Beach , because visitors have already started going to the mangrove area.

He said the White Sand Beach in Brgy. Luca is a scenic islet located off south Bais Bay and is one of a kind due to the lush mass of mangroves surrounding the area. The provincial government had initially allocated P1 million to start the construction of a boardwalk in the area and it is almost completed.

The governor also allotted another P1.4 million to bring the hot water from the source of Baslay Twin Hot Springs into a government-owned lot located one kilometer down from the source.

The hot spring water is reported to be therapeutic and is believed to cure ailments, particularly skin diseases.

In 2006, the governor allotted P1 million to construct stairs leading to the main source of the spring, while another P1.2 million was allocated in 2007.*
