The Department of Education is implementing a new program that was rolled out at a conference workshop of school heads, administrators, principals, supervisors, and division superintendents in Negros Oriental yesterday.

Present at the conference were DepEd regional director Recaredo Borgonia and Dr. Corazon Dumlao of DepEd Manila.

Negros Oriental division superintendent, Dr. Milagros Velez, said the new program refers to the restructuring of the units in each division under Republic Act 9155. It is a matter of realigning resources, priorities and job descriptions, Region 7 of which is a pilot area, she said.

The Negros Oriental government has allocated millions of pesos to develop Baslay Twin Hot Springs in Dauin town and White Sand Beach in Tanjay City , two new potential tourist attractions, this year.

Gov. Emilio Macias II has requested the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to appropriate an additional P2 million for the completion of the boardwalk and for the construction of cottages and sanitation facilities in the area.

Macias said the immediate establishment of sanitation facilities such as portable latrines has been stressed to avoid polluting the pristine waters of the White Sand Beach , because visitors have already started going to the mangrove area.

Department of Trade and Industry regional director Asteria Caberte lauded the Siquijor Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently for being the single “loud” voice of the business community in Siquijor.

Caberte, who spoke at the induction of officers at the Blue Wave Resort, Siquijor, Siquijor, said SCCII should continue to be that loud voice on other issues affecting the business communities throughout the country and must be ready for some chambers who may call for their help.

She said that, as the voice of business community SCCII can put forward proposals and policy recommendations for the promotion of a sound and dynamic business environment and promote the interests of the business community by making representations in government and quasi-government bodies.
