| The Sigaboom 2009 Drumbeating Competition will be held at the Northwing Fiesta Strip of SM City Bacolod 6:30 p.m. Oct. 18.
The contest is open to the general public, a press release from SM said.
The competition will be an “Open Category” competition, so all amateur and professional musicians, drumbeaters/percussionists, dancers, and the general public may join, provided they meet all requirements and adhere to the rules and regulations of the competition, it said.
Teams must have a minimum of at least 11 members and a maximum of 18 members. This will be inclusive of performers, to include drumbeaters-percussionists, and dancers. In the event that the total number of applicants exceeds 12, SM City Bacolod will have the discretion to set up a screening/elimination date, and announce screening rules, and screening date/s to the public, it said.
Interested drumbeating teams can register by filling up an application form at the Marketing Department of SM Mall Administration Office, 5 p.m. Oct. 15.
All applicants are required to fill up the official registration form. The designated team leader is the authorized person to fill out the form. However, all individual members of the team are to sign in the registration form, the press release said.
The Grand Champion will receive P20,000 (P10,000 cash and 10,000 in SM Gift Certificates) while the second and third placers will get P10,000 (P5,000 cash and P5,000 in SM Gift Certificates) and P5,000 (P2,500 cash and P2,500 in SM Gift Certificates), respectively.
Another P5,000 cash will be given to teams that will be awarded Best Dancers, Most Green Bag Votes and Most creative. A P2,500 cash and P2,500 SM Gift Certificates will be given to a team that will be declared Best in Costume, the press release said.*

Alangilan parish turns 30
The Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish in Brgy. Alangilan, Bacolod City will celebrate its 30 th year Wednesday.
This year's theme, “Pagkatampad ni Kristo kag Inspirasyon sang Aton Iloy Santo Rosaryo: Pari kag Tumuluo Dungan Balay sang Isa Ka Simbahan nga Panibag-o!,” a press release from the parish said.
Parish priest Farley Ray Sta. Ana Santillan said the celebration started yesterday with an opening salvo, cultural presentation and a mass celebrated by San Sebastian Cathedral parochial vicar, Fr. Jerryvel Celestial.
On October 5, dubbed as “Adlaw sang mga Kabataan,” with the theme, “Pagkatampad sa aton Responsibilidad sa Sosyedad: Pagkapari nagapatubo sa aton sa Matarong nga Pag-alagad”, another cultural presentation will be conducted and a mass which will be celebrated by Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Parish priest Jonas Sumagaysay followed by a feeding program.
On October 6, “Una nga Santos nga Pagkalawat” with a theme, “Pagkatampad sa Simbahan Pagkapari nga nagapahamtong sa aton Pagpangabuhi sang Pagtuluohan”, a mass will be celebrated by St. Jude Thaddeus Shrine rector, Fr. Joevic Lemoncito. After the mass, there is an opening of an Agro Fair in front of the parish and in the evening Alangilan Sanggunian Kabataan will showcase their talents.
On October 7, a procession of Our Lady of Most Holy Rosary will be conducted around the barangay, followed by a mass which will be celebrated by Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish priest, Fr. Dimitri Gatia. The mass will be followed by baptism, a cultural presentation and live band in the evening.
The late Fr. Gratian Murray, first established a chaplaincy in 1979 for the parishioners to have a place where they can have fellowship and unity in praising our Triune God in the inspiration of Our Lady of the most Holy Rosary, the press release said.
After 14 years, the chaplaincy, with the blessing of the late Bishop Antonio Fortich, became a parish.
Now, 30 years after the first structure was erected, a new church building is being constructed beside the old building, the press release said.
This is made possible through the efforts of Santillan and all the sponsors and parishioners donating in cash and in kind.
Santillan hopes for the parish to become a shrine of the Our Lady of Holy Rosary with the construction of a larger church for the parishioners.
He is calling for more support for the construction, the press release said.*

More activities set
for MassKara fest
The 30th MassKara Festival celebration enters its second week today, with various activities building up to its finale next week.
This week will be highlighted by Salute to the Stalwarts: The 1st Negros Press Club awards to be held at the L'Fisher Hotel Saturday, a MassKara press release said.
Produced by the Silver MassKara Festival Organization, the event is an expanded form of the traditional Media Night of the festival and will be an exclusive NPC affair, it said.
Other events are the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association cultural presentations, the G Force live concert, the MassKara Grand Ball and Fashion Show of the Bacolod Cultural Society and the Arnis Open Competition, and the Ms. Gay MassKara Talent Night.
Starting today, the Philippine Mental Health Association will spearhead the observance of the National Mental Health Week in time for the MassKara celebration.
The NOPSSCEA is holding its Pre-elementary Cultural Presentation at the University of St. Salle also today, and tomorrow the tertiary level competition will be held at the West Negros University . There will be a NOPSSCEA Dance Fest on Wednesday at the USLS Coliseum and Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod Gymnasium.
The G-Force Live in Concert will also be held Wednesday at WNU.
The MassKara 2009 Arnis Open Competion is scheduled Friday at the BAYS Center , while the MassKara Grand Ball and Fashion Show will be at the New Bacolod Government Center .
The MassKara Queen 2009 Talent Competition, the Karera sa MassKara at the Old Bacolod Airport and the Ms. Gay MassKara Talent Night are all scheduled on Sunday.*
