A micro hydro facility in Sitio Campuestohan, Talisay City , will be inaugurated Wednesday afternoon.
The site is at the edge of the North Negros Natural Park , and the facility is capable of providing 10 kilowatts of renewable energy to more than 40 households in that area.
The project is funded by the Talisay City government headed by Mayor Eric Saratan.
The Talisay City government, the Negros Forest and Ecological Foundation Inc., the barangay council of Cabatangan, the Cabatangan Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative and the Campuestohan Upland Farmers Association will officially open the mini-hydro plant, NFEFI trustee Robert Harland said yesterday.
It will provide inhabitants in Campuestohan with a constant and reliable power of electricity, Harland added.
Power is generated when flowing water passes over a waterwheel which drives a turbine. It will provide some 5 KVA of electrical power for around 40 households, he said.
Sometime in 2000, the late Mayor Anthony Lizares called me excitedly that he got some P2.7 million for a power transmission line to Campuestohan and I held him back to consider hydro power instead, Gerry Ledesma, former NFEFI president, said.
So early this year, Saratan funded this project, he added
The project costs less than half a million pesos, he added.*CPG
