Bago City in Negros Occidental is positioning itself to be the next agri-tourism haven in the province through a planning process called the Local and Regional Economic Development, a press release from the Department of Trade and Industry said.
LRED, a participatory planning program, is led by Bago City Mayor Ramon Torres and is jointly organized by the DTI headed by provincial director Rebecca Rascon and the German Technical Cooperation represented by Rhea Ledesma, GTZ Regional Coordinator.
The plan was introduced yesterday through a series of workshops and activities that run until today, at the Planta Centro Hotel in Bacolod City facilitated by an LRED team.
The group is composed of representatives from Bago City, De La Salle University and DTI, all of whom were earlier trained on LRED, the press release said.
Participants will come from both private – businesses, academe, NGOs, media – and public sector – local government officials, national government agencies.
LRED is one of the major interventions in the Small and Medium Enterprise Development for Sustainable Employment Program.
It is a development cooperation project between the Philippines and Germany that aims to improve the business and investment climate for SME in the Philippines, especially in the Visayas.
GTZ is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations owned by the German Government, the DTI press release said.*
