StarStruck Negros finalists
joining regional tilt Saturday

Fifteen StarStruck Negros finalists will move on to compete in the regional finals in SM City Iloilo Saturday, a GMA network press release said. 

The StarStruck panel of judges screened almost 200 who auditioned Sept. 19 and 20 at SM City Bacolod, evaluating their looks, talent, audience impact and X-factor and came up with 15 finalists, it said.

The finalists are Tiffany Gargaceran, Andrew Briz, Mel Bryle Ibañez, Rollo Espinos III, Jessie Cliff Padilla, Stalin Lescano Jr., Danielle June Villaflor, Christine Martir, Rusty Love Italia, Yoko Villoso, Julius Pabiona Jr., Elizabeth Lemmer, Tiffany Videlene Sonntag, Jacob Sales and Ma. Jimmyl Garilao (the reigning La Carlota Pasalamat Festival Queen). 

The group recently underwent a workshop to prepare them for the regional finals.

The 1st StarStruck Negros auditions leg will be shown over GMA Channel 10 Bacolod 10:55 a.m.  to noon Sunday before SOP. 

More of the StarStruck Season V contest leg will be shown in the succeeding Sundays, Oct. 18, Oct. 25 and Nov. 8.  

Partners of GMA in the search are SM City Bacolod, PRN Review Center, PAGCOR Hotel-Bacolod, Bacolod CMO Sectoral Concerns Office, Davids Forever, Amity Volunteer Fire Brigade and RGMA Campus Radio.

Nurses invited to nat’l
confab in Boracay

All nurses of Negros Occidental are invited to attend the national convention of the Philippine Nurses Association at Eco Village Resort, Convention Center, Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan on Oct. 19 to 22, Merle Salvani, PNA-NOC president, said in a press release yesterday.

The theme of this year’s convention is “Leading Change: Building Healthier Nations,” the press release said.

Tan donates school building

A two-classroom school building donated by Dr. Lucio Tan to the Msgr. John Liu and Msgr. John Su GK Village-Handumanan sang Hua Ming will be unveiled, blessed, and turned over at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow, a press release from the SJI alumni association said.

The donation was made through the Southern Negros Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. and was facilitated by Lucy Ponce, a member of the St. John’s Institute Board of Trustees, and Adolfo Lim, president of the Southern Negros Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc., it said.

Officers and members of the Southern Negros Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc., and Edmund Torres – provincial head of Couples for Christ will join the turnover rites.

The two-classroom school building will be blessed by Fr. Emil Ascaño, SJI School principal-rector.

Continuing its mission to give back to the community, the St. John’s Institute Alumni Association, which started the Msgr. John Liu and Msgr. John Su GK Village-Handumanan sang Hua Ming for their alma mater’s golden jubilee celebration, aims not only to give away houses as dole outs, but to build a community with holistic programs, the press release said.

The project is a joint effort of the entire SJI-AA, SJI, and Gawad Kalinga, it added.*

Church holds drive
to aid Ondoy victims

The church of Victory Christian Fellowship is now accepting donations in cash or goods of any kind for the victims of Typhoon Ondoy.

Through the effort and support of Pastor Ryan Gidor, they have now filled five boxes of goods ready for the first batch shipment. The church hopes to send four more shipments, a press release said.

Recently they held a worship night of prayers for the victims and talks continue every worship day about other possible ways to help.

The church is open to all walk-in donations for clothes, medicines, bottled water, blankets, towels and other basic needs, the press release said.

VCF is accepting goods or cash donations at its office at the 3rd level of Robinsons Place, Mandalagan, Bacolod City.

OFWs and other foreign concerned citizen of other countries are also invited to help, the press release said.
