| More cops deployed
at MassKara fest site
City Police officer-in-charge Senior Supt. Celestino Guara yesterday said they have deployed 15 additional policemen from nine stations in Bacolod to augment Police Station 1 personnel in maintaining peace and order at the Bacolod Public Plaza while the MassKara Festival is on going.
Guara, however, said the deployment of these personnel is temporary pending the arrival of the members of the Regional Mobile Group and Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, who are set to deploy 50 additional policemen in the City by the end of the week.
Guara also said that 200 policemen from the Regional Training School in Bakyas, Mansilingan, Bacolod are also expected to arrive. He said there are now 30 militiamen and other force multipliers helping Station 1 personnel.
Station 1 chief Senior Insp. Luisito Acebuche said they need to tighten the security. He admitted that some of the field training personnel deployed in his area have no firearms and are only using bamboo sticks. He also said they have deployed three policewomen at the plaza to frisk female revelers.
He said minors are also advised to go home by 10 p.m. except when they are accompanied by their guardians and parents, since minors were noted to be involved in most skirmishes occurring in the area.
They also check all the kiosks to make sure they do not serve liquor to minors, he added.
Meanwhile, based on Station 1 records, about 105 persons have been arrested since the time of the MassKara’s opening for various offenses with alarm and scandal and concealment of deadly weapons being the top violations recorded.*APN

PNP: Get-away vehicle
of drug suspect found
The alleged get-away vehicle of a drug suspect, who fought back as arresting policemen approached during a drug operation Monday, was recovered in a subdivision in Brgy. Granada, Bacolod City yesterday, Insp. Joemarie Occeño said.
Occeño, head of the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, said they recovered the red Isuzu pickup after Police Station 5 informed them that a concerned citizen had seen it at Glendale Subdivision.
Occeño added that when the description of the vehicle fit that of the get-away vehicle used by suspect Andrew Ledesma of Purok Sigay, Brgy. 2, they immediately went to the area, but Ledesma had escaped a dragnet operation at Lacson Street on Monday.
About 9 p.m. on Monday, Ledesma shot back at the CAIDSOTG operatives, who were about to arrest him, after he handed a plastic sachet of suspected shabu in exchange for P5,000.
An empty shell and a live ammunition of a .45 caliber pistol was recovered from the vehicle, that also had a gunshot hole on its side, Occeño also said.*APN
