The Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. turned over yesterday six two-classroom school buildings, five to elementary schools in Bacolod City and one in Sipalay in southern Negros .
Soliciting financial assistance from business tycoon Lucio Tan, the federation constructed a two-classroom building at Msgr. John Liu and Msgr. Jon Su Gawad-Kalinga Village “Handumanan sang Hua Ming” in Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod City .
At yesterday's turnover rites of the school building, Tan was represented by St. John's Institute Board of Trustee member, Lucy Ponce, who led the ceremonial cutting of ribbons with Carlos Javellana and Jimmy Tang, members of the FFCCCI Board of Directors.
From the GK Village School, the group went to Handumanan Elementary School to join Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia who led the turnover ceremonies for the school building donated by Tan.
In his message to the school officials and students of the school, Leonardia lauded the federation for their generosity and support to education.
The group also donated two-classroom school buildings to Jose Gonzaga Elementary School in Bakyas, Brgy. Mansilingan donated by Co Kin Hung; Rodolfo Medel Elementary School in Brgy. Tangub donated by Delfin Letran; and Crispino V. Ramos Elementary School in Brgy. Taculing, donated by Sy Bun Chuan.
The school building donated by Tan Ching to Generao P. Alvarez Elementary in Sipalay was turned over by the FFCCCI to a school representative at R. Medel Elem. School.
Meanwhile, Javellana said that aside from building school buildings, FFCCCI also extended assistance to typhoon victims in Manila .
The federation has solicited P35 million from its members and turned it over to the victims, Javellana said.*NAB
