The 2009 Buglasan Farm Family Congress yesterday kicked off the annual Buglasan Festival of Festivals celebration that officially starts today.
Negros Oriental Gov. Emilio Macias II opened the congress with Board Member Napoleon Villegas Jr. as committee chairman of agriculture, and Ricardo Oblena, regional executive director of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Unit 7, and other government officials.
The two-day congress is spearheaded by the Office of the Provincial Agriculture and focuses on this year's theme, “Building Stronger Alliance among Organic Practitioners for Sustainable Agriculture”, and in line with the efforts of the province to promote organic farming.
Farmers from towns and cities in the province will sell their organically-grown farm products during the congress after the judging of the “Booth Pinaka Contest.”
Different activities and contests are slated in the congress, with entertainment highlights and contests, such as an open minus-one singing contest, Awit sa Kagahapon, Michael Jackson and Marian Rivera look-alike dance contest, all of which will start at 4 p.m. today and end midnight.
The coronation of the 2009 Farmer King, RIC Queen and Mr. and Miss 4-H will also be held tonight.
Various skills and method demo contests for farmers, fishermen, RIC and 4-H will also be presented.
The closing and awarding program will start 3 p.m. today with Vice Gov. Jose Baldado, Board Members Marcelo Adanza and Mariant Villegas, the three district representatives in the province – George Arnaiz, Pryde Henry Teves and Jocelyn Limkaichong, and other officials present.*RG
