AACI Farms outplayed Basecom, 83-76, while AACI Trading took advantage of an undermanned AACI Transport scoring a rousing victory, 96-66, in the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. 3rd Conference Inter-Color tournament at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang gym.
Marc Lo's two triples for Farms late in the fourth broke the backs of Basecom, his first trey giving his team a 77-71 lead.
Basecom's Robbie Jalando-on tried to salvage the situation by scoring on a three-point play but Lo fired another triple to put the game away.
Compounding Basecom woes was Farms' Ritche Militante, who was pounding it inside as he scored 10 of his team's first 16 points in the payoff quarter, while Lo added 10 points to widen the gap even as Jalando-on scored 10 points and Dennis Gamboa chipped in five markers for Basecom.
Farms had the game under control as early as the first quarter with Ralph Ong registering 10 points and Ralph Richard Tan hitting three treys for a 26-21 lead.
In the second quarter, Jalando-on and Gamboa's combined for 17 points but their effort was not enough to overhaul the lead as AACI Farms launched a balanced attack led by Militante.
Not giving up easily, Jalando-on teamed up with Denson Lim in the third quarter for 11 points to carry on with the fight for Basecom, cutting the lead at 57-56 at the end of third quarter but Lo and Militante took charge of Farms' offense in the final chapter to seal the win.
In the second game, AACI Trading took advantage of the absence of their top two picks Christopher and Vincent Javelosa to score the emphatic victory.
From a 21-15 advantage, Trading put on a crippling full court man-to-man defense that resulted in several turnovers for Transport to extend a 47-23 lead at halftime.
Alex Chua paced Trading with 17 points, backstopped by Antonio Rogacion and Ernesto Biboy Yap with 14 each while John Montemayor added 13 and Garret Tabanao with 10 points.
Transport was led by Brian Tan with 15 points while Dandan Gustilo delivered 12, Ton Ton Chua 9, Jupiter Chua and Chris Lim with 8 points apiece.*with a report from Stephen Tan
