Comelec expects voters
in Negros to exceed '07

The registered voters in Negros Occidental are expected to exceed the number in the 2007 elections when the registration for the 2010 polls ends on Oct. 31, Provincial Election Supervisor Jessie Suares said yesterday.
In 2007, the province had 1.576 million voters but Suares expects Negros Occidental to have 1.6 million voters in 2010.
Suares said there are nine days left until the Oct. 31 midnight deadline for the registration of voters and Negrenses should take advantage of extended hours set by the COMELEC.    |
‘Teener kills Bacolod police aide'

A police aide of Station 10 was shot and killed allegedly by a 14-year-old in Purok Kawayanan, Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod at about 10 a.m. yesterday, Police Officer 1 Arnel Deles said.
Deles identified the fatality as Vicente Tamon, 33, of Purok Kawayanan, Phase 6-B, who succumbed to a lone gunshot wound on his back.
The suspect, whose name Deles did not disclose, is from Purok San Roque, Handumanan. He was arrested by the police and referred to the City Social Development Center , while his two companions evaded arrest.

City cops seize 53 gun replicas

The Police confiscated 53 gun replicas from several vendors in Bacolod City at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, City Police Investigation and Detection Management Section head Chief Insp. Leonardo Angcon said yesterday.
Angcon said a simultaneous saturation drive was conducted at the Gaisano City Mall in Brgy. Singcang-Airport and at Luzuriaga and Gatuslao streets on complaints from concerned citizens and legitimate gun owners about rampant selling of gun replicas in these areas.
Angcon noted that the Philippine National Police headquarters has issued letter of instruction 1264 to all police units all over the country banning the sale of gun replicas in commercial establishments and streets.
