LAND ROW
Cops seek help
to ease tension

Inspector Louie Figueroa yesterday sought the help of the 614 th Provincial Mobile Group and Army's 61 st Infantry Battalion to ease the tension in Hacienda Matab-ang, Brgy. Masaling, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, with the implementation of the agrarian reform program that was aggravated further by a grenade throwing incident Wednesday night.

Figueroa, Cauayan police chief, yesterday said that none of the security guards temporarily staying at the house of Tedolo Salem were hit by grenade shrapnel, although they were shaken by the explosion.

Initial police investigations showed that the security guards were hired by a certain Atty. Hilado to escort those conducting a survey of the disputed hacienda property.

Before the grenade explosion, Figueroa said they received complaints from agrarian reform beneficiaries who alleged they had been threatened with guns by the security guards.

Figueroa said he suspects that the incident was caused by a land dispute.

The grenade explosion caused damage to window jalousies and portions of the house of Salem .

Cauayan police investigators are still facing a blank wall as to the identity of the grenade thrower.*GPB
