The Ironman of Negros Oriental Pio Salvador landed fifth place in the recent Ironman 70.3 Philippines held in the Camarines Sur Watersports Complex in Camarines Sur.

Metro Dumaguete Roadrunners Club events coordinator Paultom Paras said Salvador, who was in the Age Group 60-64 finished the 70.3 mile, or a total of 113 kilometers, with a time of 7 hours 46 minutes and 56 seconds (07:46:56).

He clocked in a split time of 00:56:53 and race time of 00:56:53 in the 1.9 kilometer swim landing (Category position 4) , while in the 90-kilometer bike race he clocked in a split time of 03:42:41 and race time of 4:43:39 (Category position 6).

For the 21.1 kilometer run, Salvador finished with split time of 02:58:19 and Race time of 07:46:56 (category position 4).

In the final standings, Salvador finished a little of 16 minutes behind the 3rd placer from Japan Noboru Tsukahara and 48 minutes away from 2nd placer Brigilio Balaba from the Philippines.

Joseph Ong from Singapore dominated in the final standings, landing first place with a time of 06:10:50.

Paras disclosed that Salvador got into trouble with his borrowed bike which is not proportion to his height, causing shoulder pains and road crash.*RG
