Pregnant woman,
2 others die in mishap

BY ADRIAN NEMES III

A pregnant woman being rushed to a hospital, her baby and her widowed mother were killed in a vehicular accident at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday in Bacolod City, reports from the City Police’s Traffic Management Unit showed yesterday.

The casualties were identified as Sharon Alison Arroyo, 27, of Crossing Otso, Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City, and her mother Lilia Alison, 65, of Brgy. Miranda, Hinigaran town, Negros Occidental by traffic investigator Police Officer 3 Docelio Pachoro.

Investigation showed that the victims were on board a Hyundai Accent taxi (FWK 679) owned by AJM lines and driven by Mardel Stephen Yogore, 49, of Brgy. 13, Bacolod.

The taxi was allegedly bumped by the Hilux vehicle driven by Teodolfo Makilan, 38, of Sitio Sulom, Brgy. Villamonte, which was heading West of Luzuriaga Street, hitting its right rear side, Pachoro said.

The impact of the accident caused both vehicles to turn around and both sustained damages.

The victims were rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital where Arroyo died at about 1 p.m. after undergoing a caesarian operation at about 5:30 a.m. Her baby girl also did not survive, Pachoro said.

He said Arroyo’s mother-in-law Caridad, 60, and brother-in-law Von Carlo, 21, and the taxi driver were also injured and were rushed to the CLMMRH. The older Arroyo was transferred to the Pablo O. Torre Medical Center while Von Carlo and the taxi driver were released later as they sustained only minor injuries.

Pachoro said Makilan was accosted by the bystanders and was endorsed to Police Station 1, where he is now detained at the lock-up cell.

The Hilux vehicle is now impounded at the Bacolod City Police Office Headquarters while the taxi was towed and was brought to Brgy. 13.

Pachorro said that if the victims’ family will pursue a case, the driver of the Hilux vehicle could face charges for physical injuries resulting to homicide and infanticide with multiple physical injuries and damages to property through reckless imprudence.

Last week, a Briton also died when his Mitsubishi Strada vehicle collided with a bread delivery van.*APN
