FOR 2010 POLLS
Handumanan
inmates register

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

About 267 inmates of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod City registered to vote in the 2010 elections Saturday, acting Bacolod COMELEC registrar Ryan Castro said yesterday.

The Handumanan BJMP has 302 prisoners, most of them facing illegal drug charges.

The COMELEC had also taken the biometrics data of 294 inmates at the BJMP at the BCPO compound in Magsaysay Avenue Bacolod last August 31 and reactivated the records of 46 others who had registered earlier but failed to vote in previous elections.

Castro said the registration of the inmates is in accordance with the resolution of the COMELEC en banc to register prisoners who have not been sentenced yet.

He said these prisoners can still exercise the right of suffrage.*CGS
