Coming from the country that produced boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, Negrense Donnie Nietes and ALA Gym stablemate Z Gorres got their share of VIP treatment in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico as they basked in media attention three days before their scheduled fight in the Sept. 12 (Sept. 13 in Manila) Mexican Independence Day Latin Fury XI.

WBO minimumweight champion Donnie Nietes and bantamweight contender Z Gorres were invited to guest in the Radio Sensacion 93.7 hosted by Jerson de Leon to talk about their chances against their opponents Manuel Vargas and Cruz Carbajal respectively, Dong Secuya of the philboxing.com reported.

Negrense football fans will have an opportunity to see in action the RP Under-16 football team when they compete in the 1st Doc Eric 7-aside Football Festival this weekend at the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College football grounds.

The nationals will be using their stint in the event as tune-up in preparation for the Oct. 3-13 AFC Asian U16 Football Championship Group E Qualifier to be played at the Panaad Stadium.

The 1st Doc Eric bootfest is organized by the City Government of Talisay City under Mayor Eric Saratan in cooperation with the Executive Village Football Club headed by businessman Rafael “Junie” Lizares.

in LNA7 basketball

Former varsity standouts Rex Bayer and Jesmar Gabihan took control of the game as Basketball Unified Sports Group downed BBC, 93-84, in LNA7 34-Up basketball tournament at the West Negros University gym in Bacolod City.

BUS Group took an early lead, 28-10, with Bayer, Gabihan, Bernie Chan, Hermi Derwill, and Roberto Celis toying with BBC's first quarter selection in the 10-minute pasarelle format league.

BBC outscored the Huskies, 24-23, in the second canto as Jack Tumayan, Tony Agustin and Joebert Pastias battled underneath and from the triple area but BUSG remains ahead 51-34 behind Nene Sibaya, Felipe Sandoval Jr. Dagol Flores and Johnson Ciocon.
